Maf the Dog
I was commissioned by Faber & Faber to produce this trailer for Andrew O’Hagan’s novel, ‘The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog, and of his friend Marilyn Monroe’. I designed, storyboarded and animated myself based on the publisher’s outline.
The book is set in the early Sixties so the piece is inspired in part by animated film titles of that time, and was conceived as a single sequence with no obvious cuts. I aimed to use colour to reinforce transitions of time and place, as I hope can be seen in these stills:
The whole thing whips by quite quickly, so I thought I’d also pull out some of the more colourful background characters for anyone interested:
